Hello, and Happy Holidays!
After a longer than usual holiday break re-connecting with family and friends I have returned. Since I started writing this blog it has taken on a life of its own, along with a large consumption of my time. Luckily I have family members who are supportive of my efforts here, but at times the need to write takes over, so I decided to give up the “beast” for a few days to spend more time with my family doing all the regular holiday things we love to do.
While New Year’s in still ahead, the return to a somewhat normal life has begun, and so I have now crawled out from under all the wrapping paper, gifts, decorations and of course, the food, and located my keyboard once again. Of course, I can never completely give up everyday news and silly political items, and I was “caught” more than once taking a peak at the teeny, tiny, little headlines on my iPhone, and suffering from the “revenge of the eyestrain.” (You know you’ve spent way too much time staring into a cellphone browser when your computer monitor suddenly reads like a large print book.)
So I have returned, and not surprisingly, so has the crazy, in terms of politics and news. Let’s face it, these days it really never goes away, does it?
While I was “away” the latest version of the health care reform “legislation” passed after a lazy Republican’s man’s filibuster, along with all the loony flailing on the Right, all of which I don’t care to review just now.
There was the terrorist attempt to blow up a plane over Detroit, a serious matter, of course. Predictably though, the GOP was quick to jump on this and make it political “pants on fire”, as if it were gift wrapped just for them. So tiring.
Of course, I would be remiss if I didn’t mention this: much like the dreaded holiday fruitcake, the Grand Obstructionist Party also happily embraced their collective “gift that keeps on giving” year after year: revisionist history. (Not that they wait for Christmas to unwrap new talking points! As we know that’s almost a daily occurrence.)
Rounding out the reliable “Crazy Sisters Trio” of Michele Bachmann and Sarah Palin was Mary “I-Heart-Dick-Cheney” Matalin, (seriously, put glasses on #1 and #3, and they almost look like evil triplets from a Stephen King novel come to life) who now begs to channel Dana “Dim-Bulb” Perino and insult your intelligence by pretending that 9-11 didn’t happen under Dubya’s watch. (?, whatever…) Funny how after 9-11, the GOP claimed if we didn’t go out and shop til’ we dropped while paying no attention to Bush’s unnecessary war of choice in Iraq, we were siding with the terrorists, but now they claim a terrorist attack is the current President’s fault? (Again, ?)
And then there’s the current flare up of “Lieberman Syndrome.” It’s always Lieberman………
Lastly there was the news dump that was Fannie and Freddie, but my lack of expertise on that subject allows me to “bail out” of any editorial reviews, and lots more items I’m sure I’ve missed. However, family beckons again now as it’s time to run errands, exchange gifts and replenish our supply of vegetables after a steady diet of sugar and Christmas goodies. I never thought I would say this, but it is indeed possible to tire of chocolate…..for a day or so.
In closing, I do hope that you and your family and friends are having a joyous holiday season as well, and are looking forward to a positive, happy, and healthy 2010.
And for those of you who have stopped by and done a little reading in my absence, thank you.
