Florida Governor and candidate for the U S. Senate Charlie Crist (R) has claimed recently that his ties to a contributor at the center of an alleged Ponzi scheme, attorney Scott Rothstein, are nothing more than that of a “supporter:”
“They were friends,” the source tells us. “To say anything else is ridiculous.”
Crist said Wednesday: “Well, he had supported me like he did to many others. … And that’s about the extent of it.”
Of course, Charlie. Nothing says you’re “nothing more than a supporter” than when that “supporter” throws you a birthday party and presents you with a $52,000 cake adorned with white chocolate placards that read:
“Happy Birthday Gov. Charlie Crist. From Scott and Kimberly Rothstein.”
The cost to the special interests in Florida just to sponsor a candle on that cake? They each forked over $5,200 per candle.
Oh, and there were pictures too.
As Charlie thanked the partygoers in the Magnolia room in The Breakers hotel in Palm Beach at that birthday party, he said:
“Scott, if you want the mic, it’ll cost you $100,000,” Crist said in jest and remonstrance, according to three people in the room.
Oh that Charlie! What a kidder!
“Just a supporter Rothstein” once remarked:
“It’s one thing when you’ve got the governor on speed dial. It’s another thing when the governor has you on speed dial.”
I suppose Crist would have voters believe this is really just his bakery on speed dial?
