Back in February Florida Governor Charlie Crist (R) appeared with President Obama at an event in support of the stimulus bill. Back then he embraced Obama’s economic policies even though he was criticized for it.
That was then.
Now he’s facing more criticism from the GOP along with his Republican rival in the U.S. Senate race, Marco Rubio, a more popular candidate in the eyes of a majority of the GOP recently.
So Crist has just launched a new radio ad that criticizes Obama for trying to “spend our way to prosperity.” In the ad he also is taking credit for cutting spending in Florida. He neglects to mention that those spending cuts were unavoidable because of a substantial shortfall in tax collections.
As for that friendly visit with Obama? Well, now he’s claiming that he was just “doing the right thing” by honoring the office of the President of the United States. Not that he agreed with Obama on the issues, mind you!
Sure Charlie. I suppose it was only a matter of time before he would fall in line with the rest of the party and shed his “moderate” GOP status. Now I guess we just sit back and wait for him to embrace the wing-nut platforms of the party. Tea Parties, Death Panels, who knows what’s next?
I’m just surprised it took him this long.
