There are six lobbyists for every member of Congress, and in just the last few months the health care industry and the special interest groups have spent $380 million doing their best to make sure that health care reform doesn’t happen. I would say that so far they’ve gotten their money’s worth. Of course, they’re not finished quite yet and no doubt that figure will go higher.
Part of that $380 million goes to direct political contributions. The largest contribution from that figure is $1.5 million. Who was the recipient? That would be none other than Sen. Max Baucus (D-MT) chairman of the Senate Finance Committee.
This, and more, came not from a newspaper or news website here in the U.S., but from an article yesterday in the British newspaper the Guardian. It’s a good article that explains a lot of what is going on behind the scenes with Congress and the lobbyists with health care reform.
