As if we needed more proof that Fox “manufactures” the “news” in addition to the old protest pictures they used to give the appearance of “millions” who turned out for their “9/12” protest, here is yet another. Media Matters has posted video of what looks like a Fox producer coaching and inciting the people who did actually show up.
This doesn’t really surprise me, unfortunately. It’s just one more example in a pattern of manufactured news by Fox, and other news media outlets who spend countless hours on daytime cable feeding the beast of fake outrage over “socialism” among other things instead of doing their job reporting on the real issues that matter. Like health care. No, that would be too much like work. Instead you get hours upon hours of “pro wrestling” type coverage of fake protests because it’s so much easier to put up videos of angry people who can’t spell carrying around signs as if they were competing in a reality show called “The Biggest Racist.”
It would be nice if, for once, the media did its job and made an attempt to educate the public on health care. Maybe explain the difference between say “single payer” and “public option.” Better yet show some statistics concerning the number of people in this country who don’t have health insurance, or who die because they don’t have health insurance. What about the people who do have coverage but go broke because of it? Maybe report on how much campaign contributions from the health care industry are a factor standing in the way of real reform. No, we don’t get much of that. Granted, there are a few journalists who do that, like Keith Olbermann, Rachel Maddow and Ed Schultz. But they’re cancelled out by much of the daytime MSNBC coverage. For example, the kids table on “Morning Jackass Joe” which sounds more like Fox every day. The way they shamelessly fan the flames of what amounts to race baiting by the GOP and conservatives (and deny they do this as they do it), I would think a better title for the show would be “Morning Tea Party.” Granted, these people aren’t too bright to begin with, but hey, they’re the rich “latte sipping media elite” they claim to despise and berate on the show while sipping said lattes, which incidentally, they’re sponsored by. They’re well paid sock puppets who have health insurance, so what do they care?
Some more media accountability would be nice right about now. It would have been nice when the last administration led us into the Iraq war too, but we all know how that worked out. Instead we have a bunch of Republicans who are so desperate that they will do anything to get back in power, like inciting racism and violence. Sadly, we can count on most of the news media to aid them in that effort by organizing fake outrage by inflaming deep rooted fears about things like racism in people who are not well informed. They will manage to get people to protest against their own interest by distracting them. These people probably don’t have insurance or if they do, they are going broke because of it, just like the majority of people in this country. Unfortunately they are distracted to the point where they will protest against their own interests. Protests which are organized by the very people standing in the way of those interests. Worse yet, these people will even pay their own way just for the privilege of doing so.
